Flight Attendant Terminology


CA: Captain pilot seated in the left seat pilot in command.

FO: first officer. Pilot sitting in the right seat. Second in command.


FA: Flight Attendant.

Local: A trip that starts and finishes in your domicile on the same day. 

Dead head: A flight that a crew member fly as a passenger to be repositioned for a trip and gets paid$$ .


Non-rev: crew members or companions flying as non revenue passengers. In other words they don’t pay for there seat and aren’t guaranteed a seat.


Crew support: Scheduling they call and notify crew of trips and off we go. 


Leg:  A flight.

Bid: Crew bid on monthly lines, vacation, domiciles etc.


Buddy bidding: Crew members bid to have identical schedules in order to work trips with friends or significant others. 


Line holder:  A crew member who knows where they are going for the entire month all there trips are on there schedule. 


Reserve: A flight attendant on call from 4am-4pm or 9am -9pm  meaning crew support could call and assign you a trip and you have 2hrs to be at the airport from the time they you unless more time is awarded.


Ready reserve: Flight attendant is assigned this by crew support to sit in the airport for up to 8hrs on call so if crew support calls you must be at your aircraft working 10 min of phone call.


Open Time: Trips unassigned and available for pick up by line holders they also can be assigned to reserve flight attendants. 


KCM: Known crew member is how crew gets through the airport without having to go through security. 


Random: Selected crew member going through kcm to have additional screen - sent through security. 

 

Domicile: The city and associated airport/airports a crew member is assigned to. This is where all trips will begin. Also referred to as base.


Commuter: A crew member who commutes by air to there domicile.


Crash pad: Term used by commuters generally an apt or hotel room shared by several commuters to reduce cost. 


Como: They supply the plane with the ginger ale, Diet Coke and biscoff cookies you know and love. 


Slam clicker: Crew members that don’t hang out with the crew on layovers. The slam referring to the hotel door and click referring to the lock.

Flight Attendant: FA
